~ SHORT BIOGRAPHY ~

(Read a recent Article Interview on Josue Joseph- click here)

Josue Joseph is an American Salsa-Grammy (ERS) award-winning composer, record producer & recording artist, film director, international instructor & performer, dance-theater performer, and public speaker. He is most famous for his award-winning La Epoca which is a collection of his films, music, and teachings about the history of Mambo and Salsa music and dance. He is the first film producer ever to frequent the top international Salsa congresses and Salsa festivals presenting films and teaching workshops as an authority on the subjects of Latin musicality and dance. He is also the first performer in the Salsa festival scene ever to perform an acoustic music/dance routine to his own compositions plus incorporating a live-music piano-sonata as part of the on-stage show.

Most recently, in the winter/spring of 2016, he co-directed and starred in a critically-acclaimed 45-minute spectacle titled "Without Music, I am Nothing" with high-caliber choreographer and dance-television judge - Przemek Wereszczysnki from Poland (read a review here).

In April 2016, they performed for the fourth time for a live audience on the Baltic Sea in the Gdynia Theater. Immediately after, they performed a 12-minute version of their spectacle in Bucharest (Romania) in mid-April for a live audience at the History of a lost Love Dance Festival.

Their Rumba/Mambo/Son/Acoustic/Dance performance was attended by figures from the Salsa, Bachata, and Kizomba communities. It is worth mentioning that Kwenda Lima, Helio Santos, and Ze Barbosa were in attendance of this particular show.

~ CHILDHOOD ~

Josue Joseph was born and raised in the metropolitan area of New York City to Alfonso Panama - the legendary Mambo bassist of the famous Palladium Ballroom in New York City, and to Francesca - an American executive financial professional. He began formal piano training at the age of five focusing on music from the Classical-Romantic eras such as Beethoven and  Tchaikovsky, and at the age of 14, he began composing his own piano sonatas. During his adolescent years, he was exposed to and trained in music and dance technique and styling under the influences of his father's famous Mambo musicians and dancers such as Tito Puente, Israel "Cachao" Lopez, Celia Cruz, Palladium dancers including Pedro "Cuban Pete" Aguilar, Freddy Rios, Mike Ramos, and Carmen Cruz.

In 2011, he relocated to eastern Europe. Currently based in Krakow  (Poland), this central European location provides him an arm's reach to major cities such as Budapest, Prague, Warsaw, Berlin, Vilnius, Minsk, and also cities in Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania, Turkey, and Ukraine.

~ AWARDS / CREDITS / EDUCATION~

Joseph is the winner of the Song of the Year Award by London Global Vybz (2012) for his composition Vale Mas and in March 2012 he won the Outstanding Contribution to the International Arts Award for his composition Veras by National University of Music Bucharest. He is also winner of the 2010 Song of the Year by Stuck on Salsa DC-Salsa Grammy Awards.

Early in his academic pursuits, he studied medicine at the US ARMY Academy of Health & Sciences although he abandoned it in 1999 for studies in music, film & directing, acting, and dance in the New York area.

His musical studies include collaborations with Fania Records artist Charlie Rodriguez, Luis Mangual, his own father "Alfonso Panama," and the late Israel "Cachao" Lopez.

His professional film-production collaborations and studies include un-credited production assistance in the films Mr Deeds (with Adam Sandler and Winona Ryder), and The Interpreter (with Sean Penn and Nicole Kidman), and several credited corporate video productions for major American corporations including Western Union and Capital One.

After eight years of studies and hands-on experience, he returned to use his early medical experience to study Business Psychology for a basis in understanding characters and human-nature to be more beneficial in his film scripts and scene-analysis. He earned his undergraduate bachelor's degree in Business Psychology from the University of Phoenix.

In 2008, Joseph joined forces with his father - Alfonso, and Alfonso's Salsa-legend musician-friends Charlie Rodriguez (tres guitar) and Luis Mangual (bongos), and with Alfonso's Mambo-legend dancer-friends Pedro "Cuban Pete" Aguilar (Mambo dance pioneer), Freddy Rios, Mike Ramos, and Andy Jerrick (original Mambo Aces) for Joseph's international mega-educational film/music production La Epoca which consists of four individual feature-length documentary-films.

In 2011, he joined forces with Salsa legend Carlos De Leon (trumpet) for the soundtrack of the production's second edition.

In early 2012, Joseph and his father  joined forces with Johnny Rodriguez, Jose Madera, George Delgado - the first time Alfonso had reunited in over 38 years with his former musician colleagues (the last time being when Rodriguez and Madera and Panama were with the Machito Orchestra). They recorded for the soundtracks of two separate films. Rodriguez, Madera, Delgado, and Panama were also band-members of the Tito Puente Orchestra during the 1960's.

In mid-2012, Joseph recorded with Vilnius Lithuania Symphony Orchestra conductor Vytautas Lukocius - a 33-piece symphony-orchestra - for the soundtrack of the film Pyotr - The Great Tchaikovsky (2017).

~ PROFESSIONAL DANCE CAREER ~

Joseph's dance training under the influences of Palladium-era dancers such as Mambo pioneer "Cuban Pete," and others - focused on technique, styling, and clave syncopation within the body, old-school movements and body-isolation found in Rumba. Although he is familiar with On1 and On2 of present day, Joseph's style is Classic Mambo and "In Clave" Palladium Mambo which incorporate Rumba movements and styling. Old-School Mambo, Rumba & Guaguanco, Son-Montuno, Old-School Cha-Cha-Cha, Old-School Pachanga, Bachata and Bachata-Son are among the dance styles in his arsenal. He has been presenting his films and teaching professionally for a wide range of audiences on both sides of the Atlantic - and for multiple cultures and languages.

His most recent developments have been under the coaching of European choreographer and television judge Przemek Wereszczynski - who has been broadening Joseph's dance-education through specific dance-technique to add more dyanmics.

At congresses and festivals, he also teaches dance classes on Mambo, Guaguanco, Son-Montuno, Son, Cha-Cha-Cha, traditional Bachata, Cuban Tango, and Pachanga. ~ BACKGROUND ~

Mambo Legend "Alfonso Panama"

He is a son of Mambo Legend "Alfonso Panama" - a semi-retired bassist of the New York mambo craze Palladium Ballroom's top orchestras and artists including Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Arsenio Rodriguez, Machito, Johnny Pacheco, and many others - and the substitute bassist of Israel "Cachao" Lopez.

He began formal piano training at the age of five focusing on music from the classical and romantic eras such as Beethoven and Tchaikovsky, and at the age of 14, he began composing his own piano sonatas. During his adolescent years, he was exposed to the influences of his father's famous Mambo musicians and dancers such as Tito Puente, Israel "Cachao" Lopez, Celia Cruz, and Palladium Dancer Pedro "Cuban Pete" Aguilar. His father's career gave Joseph, according to several online interviews from various sources, the platform upon which to found a world-famous educational program which includes dance instruction, public seminars on music and dance and musicality, and several feature-length documentaries which document the history and progression of Mambo-Salsa music and dance which have earned international exposure, titled La Epoca.

A combination of his father's contacts which revealed a collection of legendary artists, and Josue's musical and dance training as well as years of training in photography, video, and music production were the ingredients necessary to the foundation by which he earned international exposure through La Epoca.
